I ate crickets!!!
Hey Guys! I recently had to make a huge change in my diet and follow a new upcoming diet called 'FODMAP'. Its what I would consider to be a very strict diet - as I am someone who loves food, especially junk food. I came across a very interesting concept of a protein bar made from cricket flour!
The lovely Christine at Gathr foods sent me two different flavours of the award winning 'Crobar', one flavour was peanut the other was cacao. Initially I was really scared of what the texture and taste would be like considering they are made of cricket flour, however I was pleasantly surprised at the taste! The bar kept me feeling full and is a easy snack to carry around in your bag.
The Crobar's are free from Dairy, Gluten, Wheat, Egg, Soy, Corn, Yeast with only naturally occurring sugars! This makes this snack perfect for people suffering from food allergies and intolerance or people who have decided to try out the FODMAP diet.
Cricket flour is really good for you the Crobar has as much protein as beef (60g per 100g)! Below I have listed the three facts I found the most interesting.
1. High Quality protein - Animal sourced dietary protein is greater than that which is derived from plants. It also contains all nine essential amino acids!!!
2. Iron - cricket flour is full of iron great for people suffering from low iron levels!
3. Fat - Crickets are a healthy source of fats, containing half the amount of fat found in beef!
If you are interested in trying this new concept of food head over to http://gathrfoods.com/ sample bar sizes are available to buy. The website holds some more factual information and also the products they sell including cricket flour and the Crobars.
Thanks for reading guys,
Maisie :)
